About this place
At Tsukemen Enaku, the focus is on thick, springy noodles dipped in a tonkotsu and seafood broth. Diners have described the noodles as firm and substantial, with a chew reminiscent of udon, and say the rich broth clings to them well. Some also praise its pronounced seafood flavour. It is a satisfying choice for anyone drawn to hearty noodles and a full-bodied dipping sauce.
Noodle portions are listed as small at 150g, regular at 200g, medium at 275g and large at 450g. This makes it easy to choose a serving to suit your appetite. Some reviewers report that small through medium portions cost the same, while a large serving carries an additional charge; check the ticket machine or information displayed at the shop when ordering. Diners have also said they could choose between cold noodles and noodles served hot.
The standard tsukemen comes with meat and menma (seasoned bamboo shoots). Add a seasoned egg with the Ajitama Tsukemen, opt for extra meat with the Niku Tsukemen, or choose the Special Tsukemen for extra menma and seasoned egg as well. For a change of flavour, Curry Tsukemen has curry powder added to the broth, while Kara Tsukemen lets you choose a chilli-based heat.
Several diners mention enjoying soup wari, a broth added to the remaining dipping sauce after the noodles are finished. It offers a way to savour the sauce to the end of the meal. Sides include limited-quantity meat rice and rice with raw egg, so you can also pair a rice dish with the noodles.
The shop is in Ichijoji, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, and opens for lunch. It is closed on Tuesdays, does not take reservations and accepts cash only. Check the opening hours before setting out.
